My husband was recruited to work for the USPS in 1971 as a management associate when he was coming out of the Navy during the Viet Nam War. He has an MBA and they hired 50 people, one from each state, with MBA’s, to be trained for management. What prompted this was that Congress eliminated the Post Office Department and created a quasi-corporation which allowed the USPS to participate in collective bargaining. During the first two years of his training program he and the 49 other MBAs worked jobs at every level of Postal operations before they were given career positions in middle management. He retired in 1999 after 28yrs service. During that time he had 24 different jobs and we moved 7 times. He was very dedicated and worked very had to make the Postal Service service serve the American people and he worked with thousands of others at all levels who also worked just as hard or harder. You Mr. Nach should have to do the job of a mail handler, a letter carrier or LSM operator to understand that your accusation of laziness is totally ignorant and insulting to millions of people who have worked for the USPS over the past 200 years. Anyone who can understand microeconomics would realize that eliminations of the Postal Service in today’s world would transform America from an 1st world country to a 3rd world country.
June - The best month to observe Saturn. The thing that makes Saturn stand out is, of course, its ring system. The two outermost rings, A and B, are separated by a gap called Cassini's Division which should be visible in a telescope of 4 or more inches aperture if seeing conditions are good. Lying within the B ring, but far less bright and difficult to spot, is the C or Crepe Ring. Due to the orientation of Saturn's rotation axis of 27 degrees with respect to the plane of the solar system, the orientation of the rings as seen by us changes as it orbits the Sun and twice each orbit they lie edge on to us and so can hardly be seen. This last happened in 2009 and they are now opening out, currently at an angle of degrees to the line of sight. From this month the ring's orientation will begin to narrow until March 2025 when they will appear edge-on again.
Dear Pamela,As a Brit, it’s nice to see someone from ‘over the pond’ who’s got most of the information about Afternoon Tea correct for a change: I now live in Vinci, Italy (yes where Leonardo was born), and now offer afternoon tea to Italians in our home dining would take you to task on one item in your article,(there’s always a critic!) and that is about Cream Tea in which you say: “Cream Tea — A simple tea service consisting of scones, clotted cream, marmalade or lemon curd and tea.” Cream Tea traditionally consists of scones served with clotted cream and strawberry said that if people prefer to have their scones (and it’s pronounced ‘skons’ as far as I’m concerned),with an alternative, I have no problem with that, it’s a free world (supposedly)! For example I sometimes fill my Victoria Sponge with lemon curd instead of the traditional raspberry jam and fresh raspberries both of which balance well with a nice cup of sweet Luck with the book!
